Intelligence Tips From Harris L. Kligman

Updated: Nov 26, 2022

Author Harris L. Kligman, who is a retired United States Army Intelligence Officer shared his tips and mindset when entering a room or building and what he does first to survey the location.

According to Harris L. Kligman, "When I enter a room/building, I immediately look for the exits, which could be a door, a window, a fire escape etc. When or if something happens, I already know my options - my "escape routes" and I can put these into play.

When I'm seated in a room, it is always at the back, and as close to a door as possible. My chair, or if I'm standing, my back is always against the wall.

I never move to the center of a room. I'll always remain standing at one of the room's four corners. A crowd will always circulate around the point where I'm standing over time, so there's no reason to change my position unless I'm specifically called to move toward someone. After the exchange with that person, I move my position back to a corner which is as close to an exit route as possible."
